Worksets are a great tool but they can be miss-used.

  1. Read all the workset topics in your HELP
  2. First rule is the fewer worksets, the better.  Just because you can seperate elements by level does not mean you should.  In our office, other than linked files, we usually only have Shared Levels and Grids, Workset One, Exterior Shell and Interiors.
  3. You don't have to check-out a workset to modify it, you can borrow elements in the workset.
  4. Do use seperate worksets for each linked file
  5. Do use a seperate workset for logical visual seperations.... for instance... interior furnishings are a good candidate to place on a seperate workset, as is something like Owner provided elements.  On multi-bid projects, we prefer worksets over phases.
