Our firm has multiple projects that are workshared and they all have this problem. We can not restore any backups because no backups are ever created in the local backup folder. There are other files in there but no .rvt files. The central file creates .001 and .002 files but the local files will not. I can't find anything on HELP that addresses this. We have searched for the files, but it appears that they are just not created. Is there a setting that we need to change to fix this? Thanks

Central files do not create .001, .002 but stand alone files will. Central files do not use bak files. Instead the changes you make are kept track of and you can "roll back" your file to one of those locations. Read this topic in your HELP: Workshared Project Rollback

Hi,
I just tried using the rollback function. But it did not work. According to HELP it is not possible to use rollback on server-based worksharing projects. What is the best strategy to have a backup of a server-based project?
I have to keep the central file on the server because we have to work on it with more persons. So making the project not-server-based is no option.
We're using revit 2012 in our office.

I have one more question.
In the help-topics i found under "worksharing terminology" the definitions of server-based and file-based worksharing. Appearantly file-based worksharing is possible in a network. Maybe that's an option for me but where/how can you decide if you make a server-based or a file-based worksharing?

I don't understand why users refuse to look in their HELP !!!!
Read:> Workshared Project Rollback in your H E L P !!!
I wrote the above because you have either not read or have miss-read the HELP

The server is talking about Revit server and not just a general file server that you company would use.
I have restored projects from our project servers before no problem.
To simplify it, file based means you are not using Revit Server.

@WWHub: I did read the help. I only wanted to ask something that I didn't understand in the help files.
@brettgoodchild: Thanks for the answer. I'll look into the revit server.
