YES, SAVE YOUR INVENTOR FILE AS A SAT FILE TYPE. HERE IS A LINK THAT SHOULD BE HELPFUL. SKIP DOWN PAST HOW HE CREATED THE INVENTOR ELEMENT DOWN TO RIGHT BEFORE THE "BRING CONTENT INTO REVIT" HEADING.

that is very old, do not save as a SAT file. Inventor files can be saved as ADSK files which can be opened directly into Revit and can retain connection properties. here is also some new tech for Inventor to Revit http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/bim_family_toolkit/

The BIM Toolkits are a great step toward the problem although it is still in labs... I blogged about this quite awhile ago...the best use is to work with the AEC Exchange and shrinkwrap or do a substitute...this process will kick out a an ADSK file that can be read by Revit. http://familyjewels.typepad.com/blog/2010/06/aec-exchange-1.html
