Hi,

I am trying to model a rock wall in Revit 2011. Is there an easy way to achieve the following with curtain walling? Is it possible to model a 20m x 4m wall without slowing revit to a tortoise?

I'm just currently trying to get a few idea how to achieve it quickly without too much pain.

Many thanks

I would not use a curtain wall for this.

Most of the time, materials are best represented by image files and bump files to create the texture.  What you are showing has too great of a texture to do this unless your views are at a distance.

And I think that is really the question.  If most views are not closeup, then I would still use the normal process.  If you do have some special rendered views that require more intense modeling, then I would first consider just adding the textures in photoshop or something like that.

You could look at a face-based family that could be applied where you need this look but I would not do it for the entire model.

modeling rock or even natural occuring boulders outside is difficult. www.cgtextures.com might help if you are looking for textures they have some good ones.

Whilst I wouldn't recommend modelling this and would use a texture.  It is possible to model using the massing tools and a curtain panel pattern based family.

Checkout Zachory Kron's blog for some cool examples. http://buildz.blogspot.com/
