I want to creat a building that is like a cube of concrete. but inside its an elipse domed space with an occular opening in the ceiling. Is it better to use the Massing tools, or is it better to build it as an in place mass / wall ? to make it say easier to place windows or something, or, Is it better to really visualize how this would be built as an architect and just use the walls / floors / roof tools to "build it...and lastly, if this is the right answer, when do you ever use Massing (except for site models or something) because you can never go from mass to architectural model? and, is there a difference between the massing too, and an in-place mass?

You can use both paths, depends on how you want to control the model, or if its going to change in time. You can add walls-by-face and place there the windows and doors. Also if the form is going to be too tricky to do with regular massing (extrudes, revolves, etc) conceptual mass maybe is the choice.
