So I am trying to find a clever way of migrating a layout of electrical components in Autocad (standard blocks) into Revit MEP 2011.... The building is 15,000,000 sq ft and is 80% laid out in Autocad and I would like to save time converting.

My current idea is using IFC format in Autocad MEP 2011, convert my blocks to 3D geometry, assigning IFC classifications and then importing them to Revit... This works nicely minus one thing, my devices come in as in-place families. This prevents me from being able to select all instances and swap them for a Revit family...

I know this is asking a lot but I am wondering if anyone has any ideas that I might be overlooking...

Something that might work for you is to set up a filter that will catch each different type you want to select. Then apply it to a view (I'd set up a new view to work in) so it hides everything else. Then you'd be able to drag a selection window around the families. Then edit your filter for the next type, rinse, repeat.
