I think this must have come up many times and seems elementary as this is a very common type of construction.

Scenario: An external wall of say three stories has an inner leaf or skin of 140 or 215mm rises to the underside of a concrete slab which it supports. Externally the outer leaf passes the slab, either with a cavity or not, and the same happens on the upper stories.  Visually you wish to have the elevations uninterrupted by breaks in the wall at each storey.

Is it best to use stacked walls and have a different construction for the depth of the floor slab or use a conventional wall type family of the same construction which using a tool in Revit is is then interupted by floor?  In which case how do you do this?, as this seems a better option

Using the stacked option works and works ok in section but seems over complicated having to specify which parts are variable and the specific heights of each type of wall.  It appears to have parts of the wall layer break through visually at the corners in elevation.  Something I notice people raise on earlier versions of Revit. Seems better suited to walls with plinths etc.

Version Revit 2011 - 20100903_2115, Windows XP SP3, Nvidia Quadro Fx 1700

Why not just model the wall the entire height, model the floor so that it intersects the wall the correct distance, then when finished editing the floor say yes to cutting out intersecting wall areas?

I have just been studying this and realised I have overlooked this basic step. I must have missed the prompt to cut intersecting wall areas when I tried this first time.  I will abandon the stacked wall and correct this.

Many thanks for your reply which confirms what I have to do.
