How the heck do you change the color of a standard material in the materials manager?  I want a standing seem metal panel with a different color than the default, which is teal.  In 2010 you could just change the color and update material and it would change.  In 2011 I don't see where to do that.  I can get it to change for the model, but it still renders the wrong color.  HELP PLEASE!

It's the same, Materials > duplicate > Render Appearence > select the material you want

....but I want to change the color of the material.  There is only one or two standing seam materials, neither of which is the color I need.  How do I change the color?

Maybe do it in Photoshop. Revit only does pre-set material colors.

^^ This is not true.  You can alter any material in the material editor.

Sorry. I stand corrected. My experience has been greater with Photoshop than Revit so I tend to slant in that direction. But if can be done in Revit, so be it.

Thanks

Greetings,

I am having a similar problem...I need to change the color of the the clapboard siding material, but no matter what I do, it remains the default white color.  The material is defined by the image "Thermal - Moisture.Roofing - Siding Panels.Wood.Horizontal.White.jpg", so does this mean that I have to manually edit the color of the image reference outside of Revit?  If it is possible to edit the color of this material within Revit, that would be the preferred method...please help!

Color is editable on many stock items (not all).  Some jpg images are fixed.

Thank you for the quick response.  Unfortunately, it looks like wood siding is one of those fixed jpeg materials.  Any suggestions where to obtain an add-on material library?

What are you looking at?  Most of my choices for siding are adjustable.  Actually - ALL that I looked at.

See the attached screen shot.  I'm using the horizontal wood siding material, but even when I change the color, the preview of the rendering does not change to reflect the adjusted color.  I think this is happening because the material is referencing a jpeg image for texture.  Regardless, I need to be able to quickly change the siding color to a custom color, not the grey, white or beige colors that Revit provides.

Thanks!

bergin,

I'm sorry - I was mistaken.  It has been awhile since I had to do some of this and things change when we switched from the accu-render engine.  The color adjustment is only for solid colors and will not alter jpg images.  You would have to alter the image file.

Sorry to miss-lead you.
