If I have to insert a dwg into a family, I would like to at least be able to manually update it instead of reinserting every time.

I am trying to figure out a clever way to link a dwg with blocks of devices layed out... then somehow have Revit replace the blocks with specified families. Not sure if or how, but I am determined to find a way.

Sorry lunch - read it too fast.

I don't like 2D CAD imports in families.  I think those should always be revitized.  I do recognize that some 3D elements just don't model well in Revit so I will use sketchup or other CAD 3D forms.

yea, it isn't really by choice.  i've got this massive 3d dwg from a consultant and wish there was another way.

It just seems so easy to make it so that I could select the dwg import, click an update button in the properties, and point it at a dwg file.  revit could just use the same 0,0 point and voila!  done.
