why won't toposurfaces draw any concave shapes?  see attached jpg

i feel like you've got a view depth thing going on.

no, the elevation is set right, it does it on the 1st line drawn.  it just works like a rubberband and ignores the points that would form any convex curve.  or maybe i dont know what you mean by a "depth thing"

not knowing where the extents of the topo are and where all the points on it are, it seems like perhaps your view depth is set to something not showing what you want.

Otherwise a screen shot of the sketch mode might be helpful.

the depth top and bottom are both correct to fully show the topo line elevation i am drawing.    it behaves like a rubberband and wont follow the points drawn. See attached.

the topo tool creates a surface which is not a line.

the points you've drawn are esentially the extents of the surface and what revit is essentially doing is trying to interpolate the points into a surface.

the four points i've highlighted are the extents.  the other points are simply defining heights on the surface.

right, but i cant make it work.  watch this video.. this guy makes it work quite logically http://www.youtube.com/user/TheRevitKid#p/u/5/wZA7Zsz8zFg  you can jump to about 4 minute mark.

Mine comes out all wrong, as i said, not convex shapes, i redid it to illustrate... see attached

Use split surface after the fact to give your topo a unique shape or cut voids in it.  But when you first start a topo, it can't be concave, yeah.  My first four points are always just a square beyond the extents of the project.  So add all your interior points, and then trim.

Revit works just fine with concave surfaces, you just need to better describe what you have.  Revit's topography is not controlled by topo lines.   Topo lines are just a user's interprtation of the topography.  The topography is controlled by points.  The more points, the more you contol what is modeled.  Don't expect Revit to work from just three points.

WW is right, just increase the number of points in your model

I think i have plenty of points to describe the convex shape.  I also notice that the topo surfaces don't triangulate between elvations, they are just drawn as planes.  is there a revit setting?... see pix attached.  Really frustrating.  I draw the points and whenever they are concave, they are ignored when drawing the topography.

i notice in visibility settings for topo there are "boundary points" and "interior points" (both are set to "visible", both are grayed out and cannot be overridden).  its as though the interior points dont have any affect on what is drawn.

Just create the points

typhoon... i have created the points.  the resulting surface is concave only.  all interior points are ignored by Revit.

  1. Why don't the topo line follow the points drawn
  2. why are the topolines drawn resulting in a 3d model of un connected planes, not a meshed together toposurface.

Revit is not a Civil software like Civil 3D where you can add "breaklines" and smooth your surface like you want but the answer is "Triangulation / Interpolation, look how Civil 3D create that surface only with points (no breaklines) and only with "your points" - the second image.

Like you can see is more or less what you get in revit.

The first image is the result of adding points along the contours lines and i didn't used breaklines.

Here you have a link: http://www.cs.cornell.edu/Info/People/chew/Delaunay.html

check the  "Delaunay triangulation" to see how this works.

Cheers
