Hi,

When I insert topography into Revit 2010, the portions of my building that are below grade cannot produce section cuts with any depth. As in, if I cut through a stairwell that runs from the basements up through to the roof, the floor above grade show the rails in the distance that I allowed in the section cut view distance, but once the building goes below the grade line, all distant object vanish, and I am left with only the objects that the cut line itself is passing through. This goes away if I delete or hide the topo. Based on assumption, I think maybe the topo is considering everything below the grade to be solid earth, and so it is showing me that beyond the section line is solid, non-transparent earth. Is there a way to either set the topo to only show me the surface grade line in section view? I can hide the earth hatch easily enough in Visibility Graphics or even in the material setting, but I think Revit still acknowledges that there is non-transparent Earth there. How can I create a surface topo without any earth mass below it?Thanks all!-Joe

Yes, Revit will not automatically make room for your structure below grade.  You have to cut the topography or use a pad.  You can read about PADS in your HELP or search the forums - PAD.
