I have read about this function online, but can't really find any documentation or examples. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Yes I did, and came up with a few articles and white papers that were of no use to me. I was just seeing if anyone here had any practical experience with it.

I'm am also unfamiliar with the db link, however probably the best info I found on the inside the factory blog http://insidethefactory.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/02/revit-as-a-database.html cool video of a small example.
