Using Revit 2011, I've been assigned to finally get the company's first major Revit project out to our consultants still using 2D/DWG.

In the export layers thingy we got entries for "Walls/Interior:1", "Walls/Exterior:2" which redirects the said walls to different layers - which appears to work as advertised.

However, when I try to add "Doors/Interior:1" and "Doors/Exterior:2" in order to get different layers on those as well, Revit appears to ignore it. I can see a bold entry in the export layers thingy which should prove that Revit does in fact read them and acknowledge the settings, but nothing changes in the exported DWG.

Question:Is anyone out there using export settings on doors or windows and getting them to work?

I spend like 3 days doing the very same thing. I finnaly get the conclussion that you must separate diferent object properties by a criteria

By example, in walls i have

Walls        002_MUROS_PR    253    002_MUROS_C    1, --> this is, pr is proyected, c is cut.

For subcategorization of your doors, you must do subcategories in the family of doors. Then assign the layer color, and the criteria color inside the export dialog. Printing it will help you a lot, and having a set of layers that works in most cases will help a lot too. But try to resume as much as possible, there is 36 pages of layers coming from revit ...>_>

Good luck =P

Hmmm, sounds pretty complicated - wonder if the layer by function export will be something added/repaired in the next release? Probably not since the devs seems to be stuck on the enviromental studies/fancy 3D concepts horizon this year.

Quite crappy to say the least - you'd think more people would be interested in separating more than walls depending on function.

Thanks for your answer, though! :-)
