Do a 'save as' & under the options radio button select 'compact file'

Why would you not purge, you can always re-load the families?

I second Matthewh75, why don't you purge the file? Do you have CAD files inserted? too many groups? Did you create too many "In-place" families? Your file has excess views and images?

Purge is going to create a more manageable file for both storage and while working in the model. as stated above, you can always reload families. if you are unsure of the purge process, just gradually pruge catagories, instead of all items at once.
