We are stone manufactures, and we are trying to make family file for Revit 2011.

We have 30 stone texture, 5 hatch pattern (model), and 4 stone size.

What we are trying to achieve is to make a Wall system family that can calculate how much anchor you need, how much glue you need on a given area.

The anchor calculation will be dependant on the stone pattern and size.

The easiest way to do is to make 600 (=30 x 5 x 4) wall types with anchor calculation attached on the system family parameter.

But it is not efficient.

The question is, is there anyway from the wall family to "read" what pattern we use on the material, or what texture we use, and use this info to calculate how many glue/anchor we need.

Best Regards,

John Hans

Wall types can not "read" their pattern.

I don't see any way to do what you want in the wall types.  You can create types by texture (which will also have your patterns) which means 30 types.... or maybe 30x4 types.  The hatch patterns would match these combinations in the material settings.

You may be able do use formula's and do your calculations in a schedule.... but maybe this does not belong in Revit but would be better off in an excel spreadsheet.

You might want to look into material (takeoff) schedules, they might help .You'd have to have different material definitions for the stone types, and an editable parameter in the schedule for stone size.
