Is there any way to increase the number of characters that will appear in the beam/ column schedules under type? i have some beam that require quite a detailed description and the end of it is being cut off in the beam schedules. thanks for your help

you can drag column width to adjust, both in the schedule view and after schedule is placed on sheet

unfortunately my text is so long that even moving these wont desplay all my text.

add the specification of that in an anotative view.... you can tag a code in the type, so later you reffer to that code in that detail view.
