Essentially these questions are trying to force Revit to mimmick the output from my existing 2d based operations – backward facing I know, and I’m sure in time the ‘Revit’ standard drawings will start to become acceptable, but for now if I can make the transition a little less abrupt in my documentation, I will win many hearts….so… 1) How would I create beam elevation views without the section marks showing on plan As a structural engineer, I often produce elevations of rc beams for reinforcement. With a floor plan in the model, I think the way to produce these views on the sheets will be to cut sections to simply elevate each beam - but won’t that mean that the section marks will show up on the plans? I know I can turn annotation off globally on a view, but I might want some to show – any thoughts? Can I turn selected section marks off? 2) Turn off view numbers I see that every view is numbered automatically and when placing the view on the sheet (the number shows alongside the title - which can be altered) – but can the view number be turned off? Do I have to create a new ‘annotation family’?

hi sydney sider, from brisbane revit has a huge range of ways to modify views and annotations and i only know a few, but mr spot plus some others on this site have taught us some simple tricks. you are right, you can globally control any category, by changing its settings in visibility, or as mr spot says, choose anything and hit 'vh' and that category is hidden. but have you noticed on the properties dialogue box, a thing for annotations - 'hide annotation in view'? ie you can selectively control levels, sections etc. as regards turning off view numbers - it is pretty easy to create a family with title info as you want - check out help. but you can also simply choose any title, go properties, duplicate etc, rename, and play with things a bit. eg, having no title at all. hope that helps - we are only 6 months at this thing and finding revit terrific. hope you are too.

Latemore covered nearly everything just one more way to turn individual sections in views... In the properties of the beam sections there is a parameter called "hide at scales coarser than". In all your beams you could setup them to not display at scales coarser than 1:1 if you don't want them to display in any views... You could also create a view template from the first one you create then apply this view template to all your beam sections to quickly adjust all of them and save you the hassle of having to go through 1 by 1... HTH.

Thankyou both (Latemore - 9.30 EST? this thing really has got you huh? ;-) (and Mr Spot - thanks also for the dxf thing earlier this week !) Brilliant... I can now turn off any of the section marks on a view so my 20 or so beam elevations are all set up on the plan - initially I was struggleling to see how I can slectievly turn these section marks off and still keep the other section marks I want. Now I have found the <view> <temporary hide/isolate> drop down & have it cracked ! As for the view numbers - I have created a new family that looks just like our standards - now on to the section marks, detail call offs ect etc..... Thanks again
