I have a residential deck railing I am trying to model with a top and bottom rail (vertical 2x4's) spanning between 4x4 corner and end posts. The top and bottom rail are used for attaching 2x2 balusters, and then a cap rail sits on top of the posts. I have positioned the end posts using the "spacing" variable so that the cap rail will extend a little past the end posts, but unfortunately the top and bottom rail also project through the end posts. Is there any way to truncate the top and bottom rail at the end posts without also truncating the cap rail? I've looked at other forum posts and can't seem to find a discussion of this issue, though I have struggled with it before and it seems like it should be a common issue.

Use two railings in the same place and stop the appropriate one at the post - it will not have the cap rfail.  The other will be cap rail only ... or as you need it to be.

Thanks for responding.  This should work - an ugly process, but as long as the result looks good . . .
