trying to complete a conditional formula that seems pretty simple but the text will not show up.

all the windows needed are shown in the attachment.

this is the formula i am trying to get and show up.

so what i am trying to do cannot be done you are saying?

why would they put a text formula in there if it isnt possible?

is this possible with a yes/no formula, even using multiple yes/no formulas?

Conditional Statements in Formulas

I figured I could use text in a conditional formula for a true of false statement

if(Percentage Required Area > Provided Area, "Satisfied", "Not Satisfied" )

so if the one parameter is less than or greater than the other the cell will just say satisfied or not satisfied.

i figured if it wouldnt let me do this text parameter it would give me an error and it does not.

i have seen how people have converted yes/no parameters to say yes or no in cells. i couldnt figure out to accomplish this for this instance.

Sorry - I responded too quickly.

Try turning off the units (SF) in those columns.

that didnt work, but I didnt think that would effect it since it is just a field format.

these schedules are so finicky

i think i have figured the problem but have no answer. each numeric value in the table is not an indivual instance. they are totals. if i look at the table itemizing every instance the two parameters are not side by side

percentage required area

provided area

i guess revit doesnt read it per cell but her instance. any way around this?

i'm using my brain here because I don't have time to use the experiment but I'm guessing you need to create a text parameter that then has 'satisfied' or 'unsatisfied' as the value so when you call a parameter in the formula it then uses the value of that parameter.

i got it to work somewhat but not automatically.

i had to create a yes/no parameter for Satisfied and change the calculated text parameter so that it says satisfied or not satified depending on if the box is checked. so i have to check teh box manually.

any one else have an idea?

no, sorry im a little lost.

are you created a text parameter inside the project or inside the schedule or inside a seperate family?

if you could explain just a little further i shoudl be able to understand. thanks.

first disclaimer: this is the first idea that came into my head.  it may be easier another way.  but i doubt it. lol.

the first step is to solve the problem of not being able to use text in an if then statement.  you can only call out other parameters in the conditional statements so lets create those parameters:

1. Satisfied.

under the manage tab there is a project parameters option. open it and click add.  then make a project parameter named 'Satisfied' that is a text type and instance.  make sure you click area under category (i'm assuming that your doing an area schedule and not another type of schedule)

2. Unsatisfied

     see satisfied

3. Result

is calculated value.  exactly like you had it before.

make sure to add all of these to the schedule under fields.  you can hide them from displaying obviously.

then go into your project and  select your areas and fill in satisfied and unsatsfied as the value for these text parameters.  you can fill them in in the schedule editing if you want.

next  when making your schedule your conditional statement work exactly as you had it before.

make sense?

yeah makes perfect sense. only one problem.

this is exactly how i did it and it still means i have to manually say each one is satisfied or not satified.

the problem is that it isnt one area or another that is satified or not. it is a group. this would work in an excel spreadsheet because it is dealing with cell numbers. my guess is that this will not work for revit at this time.

i did it slightly differnt than you. i created a yes/no parameter for area and checked meant satisfied. then i made the results parameter say if checked yes it is satisfied and if unchecked it is not. works pretty much same as your idea but a little less work.

thanks for the help.

No,

you manually set the parameter values, one to satisfied AND another to unsatisfied.  you then call up either the unsatisfied parameter or the satisfied parameter based on the if then statement, then the field for the if then statement displays the value for the satisfied or unsatisfied parameter which is just text which is simply satisfied or unsatisfied.

it automatically fills in what you need. and updates. by itself.

if you have a bunch of areas that are being add into a total then you just take into account within the if then statement.

you're simply comparing two sqft's and if one is > or < then the other then you're simply displaying one word or another, correct?
