I am using Revit Arch 2011 and I am having an annoying problem at the moment. I am trying to add a material to my floor. i separated the floors by drawing them individually for each room to avoid the material being added to all rooms. Well, when i tried to apply it, it completely adds the same material to all my floors on that level. If someone could please explain why I am having this problem it would be much appreciated.

"when i tried to apply it, it completely adds the same material to all my floors on that level" - Because you have the same "Name" (same floor) in every room,in one room select the floor go to properties and rename the floo, then do the same to the others (i.e. room1, room2.....)

I think you will find out that the individual floors may not have been a good idea but... typhoon has given you the correct answer for doing this. In the future, you may think about another method. First, think about modeling as you would build it. The floor really has two components. First is the structure. You should model this at least as one floor throughout, just as you would build it. If you want to add a finish to it, you could ... probably assign what you would use in most areas. Then if you needed different finishes in some areas for rendering purposes, you have two options: - You can split the face of the floor and assign a different finish material to that area.
- Or you could add a thin floor that is just the finish material. If you do this, this material needs to be "proud" of the floor below it. (Sometimes it may be advisable to do this for the entire project and the floor structure would not include any finish, just sub-floor structure. BTW - All of the floors you have already could be this. Just change the thickness of all of them accordingly and add a new structural floor below them for your total project.)

Thanks you guys. These two options really will help me out. I will try to reapply the floor as a whole, then split it up into the sections I want for my finishes. Also, does this apply for the walls to? Can i split them to add different materials?
