Hello there,

I have a random question.  I am needing to build a model and I have some tilted roofs that are a bit  complicated and I am needing to layout my pieces so I can cut them on a laser cutter to assemble the model.

Any ideas?  Do I need to use another program?

Thanks,

Lorne

If you cut sections and rotate them so that they are parallel to each roof plane, you can get true "flat" layouts.  You would need one for each sloping roof plane.

Hello, I'm trying to do the same thing but my roof is pitched in 2 directions. Any thoughts on how I would do this? I've tried aligning a section but it only aligns North/South but not East/West.

Thanks for the help.

All sections can be rotated.  Vertically as well as horizontally.  Cut the section - go to a perpindicular elevation or section view and rotate the section there.

Sorry. What I meant to say is that my roof is pitched in such a way that if looking from the floor plan view, the slope arrow goes north-west as opposed to north to south or east to west. The problem is I can rotate the section in the East or West Elevation but I need to rotate it again in the North or South Elevation.

I'm not entirely conviced that it can be done and I might just have to approximate it on my model.

Thanks for the input.

My answer is still the same.  Try it out so you see how it works.   Then you will figure out what you need to do.

Adding to WW, when rotating the section, use ref planes - sections will snap to them.

Ok, what I was trying to do was place a section and rotate it in the north elevation and then rotating the depth in the East Elevation which apparently you can't do. But now I see that I actually needed rotate it in plan view. That makes much more sense.

Thanks WW and pij for the help and the image and the patience. Smile
