So how do you purge CAD files that havent been linked (only imported)? I've gone thru every single detail in the whole set and there are no remnants of dwg's anywhere. But i see them when i go to Object Styles/ Imported Objects. They dont list when i try purge either. Anyone have this problem? Please help. Its driving me crazy thanks, D

Just select those layers from object styles and delete them, you can also delete the "Render Material 255-255-0) and so on, those are materials associated with layers

Right but that only deletes the layers not the *.dwg files in the list. I did this and then renamed them JUNK but i thought there was maybe some other way. thanks,

I think you are just seeing residual object data, the dwg is not physically in the project it just left the layer definitions behind.

The CAD file is still in your project. There is a app that will find these but I think it costs something. These are very hard to find. They could be hidden in view somewhere , in a detail or model family. Read this thread: http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=18933

Thanks! I downloaded the add-on. Unfortunately, there hasn't been an update to the tool for Revit 2011 but i tried it on an archived template file and it totally worked and deleted all the extraneous dwg info. Thanks for the help. I'll have to wait for the update. Cheers!!!

David, sorry for digging this up but did you manage to get an update to that app? The link in that post now points to a technology blog...
For the meantime, my colleagues gave me DWG Explorer which works great for removing imported cad files directly from VG. It also lets me quickly & visually locate individual dwgs in their views to make sure I won't upset anyone by deleting it.
I'm still on the lookout for even better solutions though...
