Hi,

I’m creating a roof window for my project.

I’m using Metric Generic Roof Based family template, which I have then changed to a Window using the ‘Family Category and Parameter’ dialog.

The template has a section of ‘example’ roof in it for which you can create your window upon.

This works fine, but I’m creating a range of types some of which are 6 or 7 metres long – these are longer than the piece of roofing ‘example’ roof in the template and so I get the error “Can't cut host for inserted objects” when I change to the correct width because the opening is now larger than the section of roof.

I just assumed that I would be able to drag the roof out a bit to fit my window – as you can with a wall in the Door or Window templates – but you can’t even when it is unpinned.

Any ideas of how I can get around this (I’ve finished my window and really don’t want to recreate it again in another template...)

Attached is a screen print showing my roof window and the green 'example' roof from the template which I need to make bigger.

Cheers.

Go into the family file. The roof will be pinned when you select it, unpin it & edit the roof. You can't delete the EQ dims in there so add another parameter (roof width, whatever) to the width & height, finish editing the sketch. In the family types dialogue box make the param you just created 2x or 3x the max length of your window, the roof should flex & allow you to create whatever size you want. You can delete these parameters then from the Family Editor as they are not needed in the project.
