Hi all, I am having trouble with the lighting in my model. I have placed fluorescent ceiling lights into a large room. When I render the room the ceiling is pitch black (except for the lights). I realise that it's because the light direction is downwards. Am I missing something simple?

You have run into one of the weaknesses of Accurender which is the rendering engine inside of Revit. First off, run radiosity on you scene which start to bounce the light around, second, be sure to define any windows as "daylight" sources, third you may want to add "studio lights" which are in the standard Revit library under lighting. These are orbs of light yu can place in your scene at mid height to cast some light upward toward the ceiling. Accurender lacks any sort of global illumination feature which is present in such products like Viz and 3D Studio Max. Interior renderings can be done in Accurender inside of Revit, but they are harder to achive than exterior renderings. See my post in this thread with PDF of rendering basics: http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=2101 Tom

Thanks Tom the orb thing is a great help and your PDF is very good too. I asked the company to buy me a copy of Viz. I think they are still laughing now.

be sure to define any windows as "daylight" sources,

Tom

Windows as daylight sources - Tom, how do I do that? Is that a parameter of the window itself, or a setting within rendering settings?

In the view, under your rendering tab, there is a daylight tool, select this then pick what elements you wish to use as daylight sources.

I clicked on the desired light -Edit Type -Intial Intensity, and changed the feet at the bottom to 30'.  My light are about  20 feet from the concrete and it brighted the room.
