i made a typicak wall section in revit. i want to link just the drafting view so i can make revisions from one place rather than having to fix revisions on 40 different typical wall sections. which is what happens when i would cut and paste 1 in each project. i can save the file out to a dwg. but my 2d software is microstaion and it flubs my wall section all up.

never done this but have you tried saving each detail as its own project file and linking to that? may be worth a try...

THAT IS WHAT I DID TO START WITH, BUT I COULD NOT GET TO THE DRAFTING VIEW. SO I WENT ON AHEAD AND FIXED IT IN MICROSTION. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THE FILE IN MICROSTATION WAS TEXT STYLES BEING ALL MIXED UP. BUT ALL IS GOOD NOW AND I CAN DO ANY REVSIONS FROM THAT FILE SINCE IT IS LINKED INTO ALL OF MY MODELS. DO YOU LINK ANY FLAT DETAILS(2-D) INTO YOUR WORK. IF SO DO YOU USE AUTOCAD.

I link all of my consultants autocad drawings since they don't use revit and haven't had any problems. I can turn off the layers I don't want and change the line weights to look correct for my drawings. That way if they update me with a new file I just have to copy over the old one.
I have also linked in my own autocad drawings. For details I usually just import and explode them because there is usually always something different with each project.

Just to save on switching between programs all the time have you thought of creating the typical wall section as a family detail component? That way you could edit it in revit and just reload the section if it is updated? At our office we find it easier to avoid linking DWG's for details as we have had quite a bit of trouble exporting views to DWG that contain linked DWG's.
Hope this is helpful,
Chris.
