Long time reader, first time poster!! Using Revit 2011, I am trying to create a Plan Title that has a built in north arrow where the north arrow can rotate. What I am having problems with is getting the north arrow to rotate it. I drew the north arrow using line under the home tab in the family editor, turned it into a detail group and that is as far as I can get it. I would like to have an option where this can be rotated without the north arrow being it's own separate family. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the file so you can see where I am so far.

I would try making the arrow as a symbol, then nesting that in the plan title family. You should then be able to align/lock/rotate it. I have had terrible luck getting anything more complex than a couple of lines to rotate, I always end up making the geometry I need rotated in a nested family.

You might be able to do this as a nested family and using a type in the title family to rotate it. We settled a long time ago on 4 titles with project norths set at NSEW. That hasn't been worth changing since you only usually need one of those in a project.

Thanks for this, nesting the object gave me a good starting point.. Now the problem I am having is since I created a separate north arrow and brought it into the view title, it rotates great; but when I bring that view title into my project, my ability to rotate the north arrow disappears...what I would like to do is be able to have an option to rotate the north arrow in my project by typing in an angle. Any ideas?

Did you look at making that angle a TYPE property - not instance?
