I'm trying to get Revit 2010 going on a laptop that used to run it, but hasn't been used in a while.  After only a couple of seconds load time, I get the error "An unrecoverable error has occurred. the program will now be terminated. All of your data has been recently saved, so there..."

I've seen this in other posts, but the fact that the machine used to run Revit just fine makes it seem like performance capacity shouldn't be an option.  If it helps, here's the journal:

 ' 0:< Initial VM measure: 1931 MB available, 37 MB used 'C 27-Sep-2010 15:06:22.421;   0:< started recording journal file ' Build: 20090917_1515Dim JrnSet Jrn = CrsJournalScript'C 27-Sep-2010 15:06:22.437;   0:< ->InitInstance ' 0:< VM Delta: Available -215 MB -> 1716 MB, Used +82 MB -> 119 MB ' 0:< Exception occurred ' 0:< ExceptionCode=0xe0434f4d ExceptionFlags=0x00000001 ExceptionAddress=7C812AFB ' 0:<   System (KB) [Available /  Total ]  [Revit Memory Usage (KB) ---------------- ] ' 0:< RAM Statistics:  2811068 /  3667860    157432=InUse   157516=Peak   699360=DeltaForRevit ' 0:< VM  Statistics:  1758036 /  2097024    122760=InUse   122932=Peak   216228=DeltaForRevit   ' 0:< MessageBox "An unrecoverable error has occurred.  The program will now be terminated.  All of your data has been recently saved, so there is no need to create recovery files." ' 0:< VM Delta: Available -29 MB -> 1688 MB, Used +12 MB -> 132 MB 'C 27-Sep-2010 15:06:25.328;   0:< program terminated

Any help would be very appreciated, thanks!

Kevin

GoatsHead-

well i guess if it won't start up- then that probably means

it won't run.. and if it won't run then that means it needs

to be reinstalled..

depending on the speed of your processor- Cryingi just

tested it)- it took me 15 seconds to unistall revit

and 2 minutes and 10 seconds to reinstall it..

if it still doesn't run after that- then reinstall windows..

Dung-

Have uninstalled/reinstalled a couple of times now, and I'm trying to avoid reinstalling Windows.  Other thoughts?

Erland-

Thanks for the site, but the file it specifies for to remove doesn't seem to exist on my computer.  Actually, I find the site odd in that it says "if the file exists", but doesn't give a solution for if it doesn't.

Thanks again guys.

Assuming that you have no platform or equipment issues then I would look again at erlands answer.  I know you said you didn't find it but do a file search for "WSCommCntrData.xml.  That file is tpically the problem.

sometimes I have to force quit wscomcntr1.exe (sp?) in the task manager to get autodesk programs to launch.  most common after a crash or repeated opening and closing of files.

WWhub/erland:  Did searches on my entire C drive for "WSCommcntrdata" as well as other key phrases in the mentioned filepath, with no results.

lunchtray:  The process isn't running according to my task manager, so unfortunately no go.

Although you don't mention what Windows you are using, "Application Data" (XP) or "Appdata" (Vista), is a hidden folder, that's why you can't see it......
