I've been trying to find a way to create custom pat files from AutoCAD 2004. Is there a program or LISP routine out there?

Try this: http://www.cadro.com.au/hatchkit/index.html Also remember that any existing ACAD .pat file can be made into a Revit fill pattern in a text editor by simply adding a new line of text. Tom

Tom, That sounds interesting, but what's that new line of text consist of?

From the Revit help file:

To create a pattern file, you use this format:

Units

;%UNITS=INCH

Header

*pattern-name, [optional description]

Type declaration:

;%TYPE=MODEL (this is line to add to .pat file, it can be MODEL or DRAFTING)

Pattern descriptors:

angle, x-origin, y-origin, shift, spacing
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simple pattern definition sample:

*Block 4x12, 4 x 12 blocks running bond
;%TYPE=MODEL
0, 0, 0, 0, 4
90, 0, 0, 4, 6, 4, -4

I downloaded HatchKit and I've been working with it. It seems like the pattern is so dense when I import it into Revit that it appears like a solid fill. Are there guidelines for scaling patterns in HatchKit so that they display appropriately in Revit?

The only method of scaling seems to be trial and error. I'm sure there is some underlying math in Revit taking place but as a user it's logic doesn't seem to be exposed to me. Tom

I had to buy the program for it to work properly. The demonstration logo that HatchKit inserts into pat files causes a lot of grief with scale issues.

I typically draw the pattern i want in autocad/revit then import to hatchkit. And save the pattern from there to use in revit. This should give you the appropriate scale. Also when importing to revit you can change the scale then...

Ok, I've been building my own pat files with HatchKit. Is it just me or does Revit only accept patterns up to 2'. If I try to scale a pattern to more than 2' in either HatchKit or Revit I get a message from Revit telling me that the pattern is too big.
