My template file has a shared parameters txt file.

When I start a new drawing, I assume revit grabs shared parameters from the one I secified in the Template.  But if I make new parameters, will they update the template?

BIG QUESTION:

Should each project have its own shared parameters file?

Trying to find the best way for workflow,  what is everyone else doing.

Homey don't play that.

We have a standard shared parameters file for the office which is stored in a central location and is not to be modified by our users.  If another project shared parameters file is needed, the user creates that in the project folder.

Some of our shared parameters are required for the template and are pre-loaded there.  Changing the shared parameter file does not change the template.  Other shared parameters have been created to be used in families and when the family is loaded, that shared parameter comes with it regardless of where the shared parameters file is.

You can have multiple shared parameter files ... but be careful here - don't over complicate your life.

You will find that manufacturer created families may have their own shared parameters.  If you want to use that same parameter in another family, you can export it from the family to your file.

Don't go overboard on shared parameters.  They only need to be shared if you want them for tags or need them to be exported in a data file.
