I downloaded and installed the Revit Architecture 2011 student version from the Autodesk Student Community website last week. It's running mostly ok.

Two major areas that I'm having problems in, however:

One, is that when I go to render any part of a design, it omits large numbers of images and materials from the objects. The objects themselves all come out either pastel white, looking almost like a bland yogurt, or just replaced with a big black space where the floor or the ground should be. It isn't just the foreign jpg samples that are missing now, either. Its the standard materials package that comes with the software that disappears too.

For example, the first attached picture should have blue carpet below the couch, and terra cotta red tile around the pool. In the second (Living Room) the stair runners, and the funiture should be black, an there should be metal and such in hte TV and coffee table. In the third (House), it should be an ash colored brick house with red solider course around the windows, but in it even the grass in the yard is somehow omitted.

Two: When I try to go in and redirect the material image back to the file, or even when I just try to change anything about any material, the entire program crashes, and shuts down. Usually this happens after I've made the adjustments, hit "ok" and tried to return to the drawing. And, of course, when it crashes, I lose every adjustment I've just made.

Are these just problems with the Student Versions of the software, or has it been showing up in the full versions, too? Or is it hardware problem on my end, or something?

Nope. Still crashed. Next?

Is RA 2011 meant to run on Windows 7, maybe? I'm still on Vista?

Do you receive the “The following render appearance images are missing:” warning when rendering?

Ensure the windows temp folder is not full, use software like "Ccleaner" to clean those temp files,  check in Option if you have the path in Rendering - Aditional render appearance paths

I am running Revit 2011 Student Version on Windows 7 and I am having the same issue. I went to the suggested links and this was not the issue (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=15255349&linkID=9243099).

Has anyone had any success fixing this?

Thanks.

the student version may have watermarks or something

but it's no different than any other revit.. i would save what

i have and reinstall revit.. you need clean installations- even

with windows.. too many things can corrupt any program..

when I go to render any part of a design, it omits large numbers of images and materials from the objects. The objects themselves all come out either pastel white, looking almost like a bland yogurt, or just replaced with a big black space where the floor or the ground should be.

go into the "materials" dialog and highlight the "default" material.. go down to the

duplicate command and create "default 2" and change that name to some part of

your model you want to render so you will remember what it's for.. then hit the

"render appearance" tab and then hit "replace"- chose a material- then close that

all out and go back to your project and find the "paint" tool.. with the paint tool is

a list of all the materials you have chosen.. (something changed with that for 2012

but you'll see it)- and then make sure you are in a 3D view and not a perspective

view- and "paint" the part of your model you want to render that material..

"I have the same problem with crashing when I try to change material options"

there will always be a time when you are changing materials and colors

back and forth so many times that the program cannot deal with YOU-

and it will politely CLOSE.. that's one good reason to constantly SAVE

your work.. it's the same thing with windows 7- if you get too "carried away"

changing eye candy back and forth like you are losing your mind- windows

will basically tell you it's had enough and will close down..

I found the problem. tablet driver didn't make friends with revit. I just had to disable it, and everything works perfect again :]

so I'm not so crazy material changer :D

I'm not familiar with the procedure to backup the registry.  Can you explain how to do this?  Where is this registry (file name/ extention) located?  Would this be located in the Windows directory?

You have to go to "task manager" (ctrl+alt+del) then go to services find services button. from the list in the new opened window find "tablet pc input service" double click. than in "start up" menu choose "disabled" and ok. thats all :] hope it will help you too.
