Are there specific reasons a dormer can't join to the main roof sometimes? I'm finding difficulty with mine and I've re-done it over and over again. It has worked for me in the past but isn't now. Could it be that my roof slope is too low?

If I understand the situation correctly I would just create that with a single roof as shown below.
