I read that you are able to tag elements in 2011 that are within linked files.  I am attempting to do this with rooms.  So far the only way I have found to actually do this is to go to Visiblity Graphics --> Revit Links --> select display settings of the linked file --> set to custom --> select a linked view.

this allows you to select a vew in the linked file that has the annotations such as room tags so they will at least show up.  The issue I have is this - what if I want to move a room tag around inside the boundaries?  Is there a way to place a room tag in the 'live' revit model the denotes the room for the linked file?

Thanks!

Mandy

Unfortunately, Rooms, Spaces and Areas cannot be tagged across a linked file.

Maybe in the next release?

Depending on the project, we may just use a linked view just as you described but if more control is desired, ultimately you need that element in your model. The ulternative would be to use a generic annotation, but that is kind of anti-BIM.

I saw a model from Autodesk that had rooms placed in both the C&S file and the INT model to handle just this issue.

I thought so but I was hoping I was wrong.  Dumb question but what is the C&S file and the INT model?

Thanks!

That's not a dumb question at all Smile

On larger model files we break the architectural discipline into seperate model files usually consisting of a Core and Shell (C&S) and an Interiors (INT) model then link them together to continue production.
