Our firm uses both Revit Architecture and Revit Structure 2011 versions.  I draw the load bearing masonry walls in the struct model along with all the other struct components. When I link it into the arch model I would then like to be able to turn off the load bearing masonry walls so that I don't get double walls in the model.  I would keep the struct walls in the arch model if I were able to put doors, windows, etc. into the linked model but we all know that doesn't work.  I would turn off all of the linked struct walls but then I also lose the foundations which I would like to see.  Does anybody have a work around for this or would I just be SOL?  Thanks in advance.

Set up views in the struct. model, use filters (or however you want to do it) to hide everything you don't want to see in the arch. model. In the arch. model, in V/G for the linked struct. model, set it to "by linked view", and select the view(s) you set up in the struct. model.

Not really what I was hoping for, but it still worked.  Thanks for the information.

No... I would not use linked views of the structural model....Then you are seeing the linked view ... you don't want that!

The model elements are in your model... You can control which parts of the linked structural model you see through VG.  VG / Linked Model Tab / change the  "by host view " to "custom".... now you will get a new VG tab of the linked model... change the model tab from "by host view" to "custom" and now set the VG of all the linked elements in that file only.

If I do it like you say, then when I hide the walls it hides all of the walls, including the foundation walls which I want to show up.  It sure would be nice to have the ability to hide all walls, except foundation walls.  I even made a filter in the struct file that would hide all walls with "exterior" in the type name and it worked great in the struct file.  But I have no way of controlling that filter in the arch model.  Frustrating because it seems like such an easy request and becomes an even bigger problem with large building that are almost all load bearing masonry walls.

For individual walls, you can tab until you have just the wall - right click and hide just that one linked wall.

Also remember that the structural model has more categories than the architectural so turn those on in VG by checking the box near the bottom of the VG...show additional....

I just don't understand how the developers of the software didn't think that someone would ever want to hide the walls but still see the foundation walls.  This is a common thing for people to do on just about every project.  I understand what you are saying about turning the walls off individually but when you have a multistory 80,000 sf building that just doesn't seem like the right thing to do.  Somebody has to get the developers to think like the people who are actually using the software.  Thanks

Well... if your structural guys would have put their foundation walls in a workset, you could have controlled it by turing on/off the linked file worksets... but I guess they didn't do the obvious.

phudson,

You are posting duplicate posts.  Are you refreshing your post window / hitting the back or what?
