Hi, I've been having a problem which I've yet to find any solution to in the forums (though I may be searching with the wrong terminology). I have created families for pieces of equipment I use regularly in my projects which have shared parameters and values carrying information on the manufacturer, model, and etc. so that I can easily schedule them. This works great until I try to edit or change a value for one of the families and reload it into the project. Even when selecting to overwrite the parameters my values do not update. The only way I can get my family info into the project is to purge the family altogether. Making physical changes to the family and reloading it works, so what can I do to get Revit to properly reload my family and its new parameter values? Thanks in advance for any assistance. This site is by far the best tool out there for Revit newbies like me.

Instance parameters are obviously - instance - and as such will not change. Type parameters can change but ... even here I have seen some problems. Not sure I can pinpoint why right now. A soultion, if you are having problems, is to rename your project family (in the project browser) before re-loading your revised family. ... like Family-old.... Then re-load family, pick family-old in the browser and SA (select all) and change it to family. Then delete family-old in the browser.

Thanks! I think this should work for my purposes. It isn't exactly an ideal fix, but it will get the job done without a whole lot of trouble. I really appreciate the quick reply.

I would stay clear of all 'special characters' such as &, *, /, ?. !, @, #, $
