Just a quickie - but I just wanted to get some insight on what the common norm is if.... You've 3 single story buildings; one 2700m2, a second 3000m2 and a third 3600m2 They've dense internal layouts, doors & windows numbering in the hundreds, They've an unresolved plan and ever-evolving elevations & design changes happen on the fly (ie. changing material type and buildups, roof geometries gettting tested and played with), You're to be modelling to 1:50 scale, with callouts for 1:10 detailing, You're modelling primary structure in the absence of an S.Eng model and coordinating 3D M&E reviews with your consultant's model. How many people would your office have on the job of modelling them?

We are currently working on a 800,000 ft2 SCIF, all disciplines in Revit, in house and we have about 7 people working on the models. We are planning on that number growing but only by a few. There are a lot more working on the project, but only a handful work in Revit. We have: 1 in structure 2 in architectural 1 in electrical 1 in plumbing 1 in mechanical 1 floater who helps MEP when needed and develops content We try to limit the number of people working on the models...

So roughly, 800000sqft = 74322sqmReally? That's interesting. Those three buildings combined approximate to 9300m2, and we've two other buildings, (1000-3000 each) so in total we've around 14000m2, which is about a 1/5th the size of yours... I started the thread thinking our resourced 2/3 wasn't enough but we're just/only modelling architecture! Might I ask the nature of the building? It seems awfully big - is it multi-story with repeating floors? Probing a little more (if I may) are your modellers part of the design team (so caught up in meetings, spec. writing, client workshops etc) or are they "a modelling-team"? Do your modellers also do the documentation?

SCIF stands for Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. Google for further information. It's a gov't building we are doing for a military base and it is quite large. There are four levels above ground and two below..the first 4 levels are around the 160k sqft area each. (+/-) None of the floor are the same. This project has all disciplines in Revit (Civil being the exception) and no CAD allowed. The team currently assigned to project does consist of design team and some technicians. As I said in my earlier post, this number will grow as the models are still in their infancy.

SCIF googled, sounds like interesting work. You say the project's in it's infancy - how many would you envisage on the job come the production of CDs?

It's hard estimate how many will actually work on the models. The project is broken into four phases over several years, so with that, I am thinking we may add maybe three or four extra people for the model intense periods.
