Hi All,

I'm doing some shadow studies for a building we are proposing and need to cast the shadows on to an aerial jpeg of the site. Any thoughts on how to achieve this? Is the best way to do it to try to wrap the jpeg on to a floor or topography as the material or is there an easier way?

You are correct in that the image must be applied to an object via materials.

The attached image was created using a bit of model text that is casting a shadow on a floor slab with a custom material containing a non-native image file.

It doesn't get much easier than this provided your image is scaled and located properly. The 2011 dialogs are fairly straightforward regarding material editting and image placement. If you have additional questions here don't hesitate to ask.

I would imagine a decal family would be a similar application but unfortunately Revit Structure does not have the ability to generate these, only Architecture and MEP...
