Hello,

I have seen a few posts on this but here goes...I have attached an image of the issue I am having.  I have created an extrusion in the window family.  I used the fixed.rfa and did a saveas first, moved the wall cut down the necessary thickness of the sill, then created the extrusion.

I can insert it into the model, but the sill size width doesn't follow the window opening.  And the wall below is not cut properly to allow for the sill height.

It seems I need to pin the sill to the opening size, not sure how to do that or to set the subcategory material.

Thanks for any help.

Try "Search" with keyword "sill".

But the easiest way would be to edit window family and create Void

not sure if this will help, but here goes.  i had to make a separate brick sill component, so i could get it to work properly below windows.  it is not part of the windows.  what i did i think was, create a void, cutting the wall, and a separate extrusion for the sill.  test this on your model, if it works to some extent, maybe edit it.

you need to align and lock your sill extrusion to the ends of your window cut opening.  the reason your window opening is not cutting your wall is beacuse it looks like your sill is below your cut opening.  your cut opening is usually the size of your window. if you adjust your cut opening to include your sill dimension it should work fine.  remeber to align and lock anything you want to adjust automatically with other componets. pinning makes it so you can not move the object at all. locking attaches it to the object and when the main object it is locked to moves or gets larger, so will the locked item. when you align an item a little lock appears. check it and that will set the lock.

It seems to have workd by locking the sill to the width of the opening in the wall, and moving the bottom of the wall cut to the bottom edge of the sill extrusion.

Not sure how to assign the precast material to it, yet.  Possibly in a subcategory?

 Thanks!

while in the window family, go to your manage tab and select transfer project standards. use the project you are working in to get your standards from.  that project needs to be open as well but the window for that project can be closed in the background. then while you are under the transfer proj standards select materials and your materials will now be in your window family and will match your project once they are inserted to your project.  then while back in your window family click on your sill and the proporties box opens up and you get an option for material. just scroll through the materials to the one you want select apply, ok and then your material is assigned to your sill.   hope this helps

sorry it seems kind of wordy but it is really quick and easy.
