Okay bare with me, I'm structure helping electrical. We are using Revit MEP 2010. We created a RCP and have the arch model linked in as our background and are seeing everything that we should (ceiling grid, lights, room tags). The problem I face is that my electrical guy wants to match the light fixtures that the arch is showing on his plan. When I open the arch model and edit the family of the light fixture and load it into my model it wants to attach to a ceiling. Is there any way to attach to the architects ceing plan that is linked in (hovering and tab doesn't work)? Do I have to draw in all of the same ceiling grids over again? If I try to draw the ceilings in and match the grid they have theirs drawn to, it doesn't match. Not sure as to how to handle this. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You could draw a generic ceiling, and place the fixtures directly over the architect's linked model. If you do, be sure to change the line weight and/or color of the lighting fixtures in the architect's file, so that if a fixture is moved you will be able to tell easily.

If you don't mind having the architects families in your project (it sounds like you don't), the fastest way to get their stuff would probably be to tab through until you get their ceiling, then copy (Ctrl+C, not the copy tool), then paste aligned. It should bring any light fixtures along with it.
