RAC2010

I'm having issues where some dimensions won't show. Not sure how to explain it, but in doing a string of dimensions, some will show, and others just won't show (no dimension or dimension line) as if it's not there. Sometimes I can just do a new dimension & place it in line, other times it just won't show a dimension at all.

Any Ideas appreciated.

One possibility is that you dimensioned to something that is now turned off.  Strings can lose pieces because of this.  Multiple elements can exist at the same point so when you dimension, always pay attention to what it says you are hovering over and tab to get the correct object.

To find out if this is the problem, turn on everything in model VG.

Thank you, yes this is one reason this can happen.

I don't think that is the reason here though, because the one I'm working with at the moment, if I try to edit the existing string it won't show up, however if I do a new string it will. (Also I'm tabbing through to make sure I'm picking up a visible object.

Perhaps it's a bug? I wouldn't worry about it the odd time, but I'm finding it happening fairly frequently .

Any other possibilities I'm overlooking?

Thanks

This is not a bug....

Please don't guess...To find out if this is the problem, turn on everything in model VG.  (After that, also look at elements hidden in view)

You will be surprised.

Hello,

Just reading this old topic and it is exactly the situation I'm having in my file at the moment.

Is there any solution for this 'problem'?

Everything is set visible and some dimensions won't show.

If they won't show and everything is on, nothing is hidden and no filters or design options, then the dimensions no longer exist.  Something was deleted.  This is a process problem.

In the couple of years since posting this I have found that yes it does have to do with visibility settings, although it's not necissarily that the wall or object is hidden. I don't remember exactly right now, but it has to do with if you change the view settings or the wall settings ( especially with stacked walls ) it seems to create these issues. (If you create a stacked wall, dimension to the wall, then adjust the height of the parts of the wall, I think this is the result)

In short, the wall is visible, but the part of the wall Revit is dimensioning to is above or below the view limits. Revit will not hide the entire dimension string, just the affected sections, and you cannot just try to add the dimension back in, it will stay hidden.

In my experience, it is easiest just to delete the entire dimension string & then redo it, or just manually add the section that is hidden. If you put in a new dimension it will find the wall & work fine, you just can't adjust an existing dimension string.

Hope this helps.
