i use Revit MEP 2010 currently. the problem i'm having is dealing with the backgrounds. revit automatically makes the walls other background information a greytone. on my plotter and printer they print great. but when i make pdf's and send them to the printing company to bind a set, the greytone lines disappear or print spotty. is there a way to make all the backgrounds a very thin solid black line instead of grey. there printer can't pickup grey. so far i have not been able to find how to change the look of the background.

i had the same problem back in 2004. sounds like their pirnter is not a color printer. that is how it is trying to get grey, by removing pieces of the line work to get the desired look. but it looks terrible.  i am no longer at that office, but i think when we printed to pdf we did it black and white. no color or greyscale, both of those options give you hte dotted lines. but then all your stuff would be the same color. at that point when changed the line weight to 1 in the view visibility so the lines would stand apart by weight rather that color.

I do want to print in black and white only for this. our printhouse charges way too much to do them in color. but how can i change the view properties of the backgrounds that are greyed. i can't find anyway to control them.

type vv, for view visibility. then in the lower left area of the pop up select object styles, scroll down to walls and set the weight to 1 and color to black. click apply and select ok all the out and that should change your walls to black with a lw of 1.

i changed everything about the walls windows and doors to 1 and black, all the lines went to thin lines, but still grey. if i can't get this to work, the owner is probably just going to scrap using Revit completely, and go back to only Autocad.

do vv, and look at walls under the models catagories tab and see if it is marked halftone.  if so uncheck that box.  thats the last thing i can think of at this time.

well that's not it. but i did get some advice from someone on Augi.com that did work. under the manage tab>Settings>halftone/underlay i can control it. you can allow halftones or not and control how they look

If you are using a Architectural file as a background, RME2010 defaults to set linked models to halftone. Instead of adjusting the halftone setting, that might cause unwanted changes else where, you can go in to the (VG) for to the Revit Links tab select custom then go to the model tab set it to custom and now you have control over ALL overrides for the arch model.

 Hope this helps

it turns out that the printing problem i was having with the pdf's was not our fault at all. the print shop that we normally use was having problems with the way there software was converting the pdf to tif for printing. i took the same file to another print shop in our area, and they printed perfect. so now we have switched shops at least for everything that comes from Revit.
