this should be very easy to incorporate into the steel framing modeling parameters - are there any plans to include this, or does it already exist in the newest version of Revit?  I would think a very simple offset of the steel dimensions, without the surface "bubbling" that really exists on spray-on fireproofing, would not increase the memory too much, and would be incredibly helpful for determining clearances for structural members.

You could modify the out of the box [OTB] family to include a fire-proofing clearance.  I would make a sub-category so I could turn it off.

I've not heard any thoughts to include this in future versions of Revit.  For collision detection Autodesk promotes their NavisWorks product which can specify clearance around objects or what is called a "soft" collision detection as it may cause a problem if object x comes within zz distance of object y.
