Hello all ! GOOD NEWS :D

i'm buying a new system for Revit Architecture 2010 etc !!!

I only have a little problem ... I'm not sure wich CPU i will get.

The choises are about the Intel i7 930 and the AMD Phenom II x6 1090T

(the i7 930 got 4-cores and the x6 got 6-cores)

Now my question is, wich one will preform better for 2D/3D and rendering in Revit/AutoCAD or other (rendering)programs

Will Revit use multiple cores when i am drawing in 3D/3D in my project/model ?

I heard that Revit DOES use multiple cores when rendering (will he uses the 6-cores, in case of the AMD x6, then ? if so ... probaly the AMD x6 is faster for rendering because it has 6 cores instead of the 4 i7 930, no ?)

Does anyone have some experience about any kind of CPU's (with multi cores) ???

any information is useful and more then welcome !

Thanks already !

From my understanding Revit only uses multiple cores for certain tasks.  2010 I think rendering is the only task where the hyperthreading is utilised.  2011 they have introduced it with opening of files.  With the model editing, however, it is not utilised.  The rule we use is to go for the fastest processing speed.

Comparison of machines we currently run Dual Core 3.2Ghz machine runs quicker in revit editing than a Dual Quad Core (8 cores) 2.66Ghz machine.  The cost difference between the 2 machines is about $3000.  Unfortunately the cheaper machine is the one that handles Revit better.

This is based on what I have been able to find out and practical use in the office.
