Hi

I have been tasked with helping design a series of modular houses and am now trying to decide on the best piece of CAD software. The entire house is made within a factory out of various components. I have some experience with Solidworks and know that in that program it would be possible to generate a bill of materials and drawings that could be sent to CAM machines to produce each part. Unfortunately it is fairly difficult to design houses in Solidworks so i was hoping there might be a better solution. Are any of the Revit products or any other piece of software able to do this?

Thanks for your help

 Rob

what is the file format that you need for the CAM machines? i think Revit might provide a viable path.

At the moment im not sure of the required file format. What i was looking for is a piece of software that you could build the house in 3d and then put it into 2d with details of every component. Hopefully i could have the detail down to the number of screws and exact size and volume of all the parts. i have used Revit a bit and cant see that it would be possible to get this level of detail? Maybe i am mistaken?

Many thanks for your reply

Rob

you are mistaken, you can build any level of detail that you desire in Revit. you can schedule it also. you just have build your skill level with the program. it not an overnight thing. i sure that there are other programs that fit the bill and i think Revit is one of them if you want an architecture base oriented program.

Ok thanks for that i shall look into the details of Revit further.

For small modular housing with some studwork would Revit Architecture or Structure be more appropriate?

Thanks

Revit Architecture has a stud layout moudle that has been enhanced for 2011. i can't remember if it has been bulit into 2011 or if it is still a subcsription plugin.

You can get the framing add on for Structure as well. Having said that, and having used both, I think Architectuer would be the way to go. What little structural tools you might need are available in Architecture.
