I usually put french doors in the window schedule since they come from the window manufacturer.  How do I get a door to appear in the window schedule and have a window tag?

Open the family and go to "Family Categories and Parameters"  Once there change the category to Window.  This should work as both doors and windows are wall hosted object.  Be careful though if the host types are different as it will not work.

Sorry. I dont understand. Do you mean open the family for editing and once there where do I find "Family Categories and Parameters"? Is it under Family types?  If so I dont see the category to change to windows.

Yes you must open the family for editing.  Once open:

In pre 2010 versions go to: Settings>Family Category and Parameters

2011 (and maybe 2010) Go to the Modify tab  Properties section  The Icon has yellow folder at lower left corner and if you hover over it it shows "family category and parameters".

Once to the dialog box change from Door category to Window category.

Save your family and re-load into project.  Any tags associated to the previous "door" will be deleted as the category has changed.  You new "door" will now schedule as a Window.  There may not be the same parameters in the other Windows though to make the door fit into you schedule.  If that is the case then you need to add a common set of schedule parameters between your door and window families which is beyond the scope of this post.
