I have created a wall hosted light fixture and when I load the family into a project the component either floats off of the wall or is partially buried in the wall. Is there any way to lock the dimension so that the edge is flush with the finish face fo the wall? Ideally I would like fixture to stay the same distance from the wall if I change wall types.

Place a reference plane in your family, align and lock that reference plane to the face of the wall, then align and lock your fixture to the reference plane. Then FLEX-FLEX-FLEX. Within the family editor change the host wall thickness and see what happens, change again and see what happens (both fat and skinny walls). HTH Tom

Thanks it worked great. I got it to work and I think I have done it the way you suggested, but at this point in time I am going to call it good and not mess aroudn with it any longer. Post edited on 2005-09-22 16:46:39
