Hello All,

I am attempting to nest a void in a curtain wall panel with the intention of creating a screen.  Using voids inplace seems to slow the family down so I was hoping a could nest a void into the family.  I am using a Generic Model to make the void, and I have tried adding it to my curtain wall panel with no luck.  Is there something else I should be doing to make this work?  I've used revit for a long time now but I've never had a lot of success with making families.

 Cheers

Scott

OK, first question, do you really need to model screens?  What kind of spacing are we talking about?  Could you accomplish the desired effect with a surface pattern and matching texture if you need to render?

If the pattern is large enough I would simply nest a new type of curtain wall into the host curtain wall and create mullions for the screen and set the panel type to empty.

If you provide a sketch or some detail maybe we can take a stab at creating a sample file.

Thanks Tom,

Yes you're right normally a pattern would suffice to show screening, however I wanted to test the effects of Perforated steel screening ( http://www.onlinemetals.com/prodimg/perforated.jpg )  I would just like to make panels that as basicly this.  It may be a really bad idea (model lag and speed) I dont know till I try.

The idea was shot down as a design option for the project I am working on about 10mins ago, but I'd still like to figure out how to do it.

Cheers

Why don't you just apply that material? In Revit materials>Metal you have that kind of texture...

Just my 2 Cents....

Thanks but I'm not planning to render it.  Just want to see how it will work with animated sun studies.
