Greetings,

New here and new to Revit, but I have been around the Architectural software block several times.  I finally committed to doing a project entirely in Revit and I am thrilled with the software so far and looking forward to spending a lot more time in this forum.  Without further gilding, however, I have gotten snagged by an issue in my project that I hope I can find some help with.

As seen in the attached picture I have a round tower that is inset into an L shaped barn.  Part of the barn has a gambrel roof that I built by extrusion due to the flared eaves.  The other part has a hipped roof that is joined to the gambrel.  Both roofs currently intersect and run through the tower.  I can cut a vertical opening in either roof to block out the tower mass, but when I cut the opening in the gambrel roof I get the error that the hipped roof no longer intersects part of it and can not be joined.  I get the same error if I try to cut a shaft opening through both roofs, or try and edit the footprint of the hipped roof and then join to the cut gambrel.  I'm running out of ideas on how to handle this and any suggestions would be appreciated, especially ones that work.

I'm running Revit 2010, thanks in advance for the help.

Awesome Typhoon, thank you so much!  I'm going to make a donation to RevitCity for that one!  Thanks as well for introducing me to Jing, I'm going to have to play around with that a little as well.
