I'm experiencing strange behavior with a few materials in "generic model" family imported into my project- I can place 2 or 3 instances of the family and the materials (surface patterns) show up great.  Then the next instance they don't show at all.  If I make a duplicate type then they will show up again for a few instances (all i did was "duplicate" so it added a "2" etc behind the name with no other changes).  Then I have to make a "3" etc.

The materials are just assigned to the extrusions, not set up as parameters for assignment in the project.

Does anyone have any ideas what's going on?  I have it working with the duplicates, but it will obviously cause a lot of extra work if I need to go in and make adjustments to some of the size parameters I set up (same adjustments for 6 different duplicated styles etc.)

Thanks, Hunter

I have never seen this problem so that leads me to the conclusion that this may be a problem with your computer system.

Is this a family or a modeled in place component?

Is the surface pattern intense?  If so, then this may cause view problems when you don't have enough memory.

Are you really sure the pattern is not thers?  Did you print the view to a PDF to see if it shows when printed.

another team member on the project had the same issue (on another computer) so it's probably not my system.  it's a fairly simple family (solid extrusions, made in it's own file and then loaded in).  the pattern isn't intense- the standard brick surface pattern.  i'm really perplexed on this one- why 3 instances of the family is the threshold before the pattern no longer shows up, then have to create a new (duplicate) instance.

This is not a problem that I have ever seen so I still suspect that it is a problem on your end.  Perhaps if you shared the family, we could look at it.
