My boss has asked me to do a small presentation on Revit since I took an introductory course during my schooling and am the only one with any knowledge of it. The presentation will be for the other drafters and engineers within the company, and is just meant to give a basic overview. No one is expected to know how to use Revit after the presentation. If the boss wants us to, he will look into professional training. He is considering using Revit since we have a few copies that were obtained when purchasing Autocad. I need some ideas on what aspects I should show and talk about. I work for a small but growing structural engineering firm, we get a lot of renovation jobs, but are getting more and more larger projects such as strip malls and grocery stores. So any suggestions?

I don't use structure so I can speak to what you can be showing but did you look on the AutoDESK website? Also look at the videos on U-Tube. There are ones on structure and also on how to impliment Revit.

Based on the type of work you mentioned, one of the items to show would be the phasing aspect of Revit.If you don't know it, learn it well enough to discuss it as there will be questions. I would also focus on the coordination aspect of Revit. - Interference detection
- Coordination (Copy/Monitor linked Revit files)
Other areas of interest would be the parametric modeling aspect. If you make a change, it can update all model views as well as schedules. I would also talk about the analytical side of Revit Structure.Talk about how it maintains an analytical model that is parametric and changes and the tech model the structure and that the information can be passed to the engineer’s analysis software or from the analysis software to Revit. (It would be a good idea to see the Autodesk website for a list of compatible analysis software and read the white sheets so you can talk coherently about the subject.) I would probably stay away from the idea of adding load information while in Revit as most Engineers will not like that nor use it. These Just a few items off the top of my head. In general, if you can think of anything that will make the teams lives a bit easier, I would show that. HTH
