I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can go to learn how to build custom light fixtures (preferably complete with electrical and lighting parameters). thanks!

If so go to http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=11091739 look up the families guide and just start in building some to match something you can buy. I've done it and it is a lot of fun, and a little challenging, if you persevere you will succeed.
